Roundhouse Community Partnership

Formed in 1991 representing the communities of 
Athersley North, Athersley South, Smithies and New 
Lodge. 
The Roundhouse Partnerships aims are ‘ To assist the 
Social and Economic development of Athersley, New 
Lodge, and Smithies’.
The organisation currently employs 28 members of staff 
delivering a wide range of projects and initiatives within 
the community.
These include:
 
Roundhouse Pre-School Project
Home Visits, building on what parents and carers 
already do, offering a chance to have fun and learn 
through play.
Play Day, a chance to meet other parents, carers and 
children, to socialise, to support our children’s learning 
through play.
Bumps and Babies, for families to be, parents and 
carers of babies under 1 year old to have fun, a cuppa 
and a natter about pregnancy and babies. 

Roundhouse Study Support Network 
Study Support sessions involving young people in a wide 
variety of learning activities. The young people attend 
on a voluntary basis at 4 sites around the area, 
Athersley South Primary School, Athersley North 
Primary School, The Roundhouse Lifelong Learning 
Centre and the Cre8ive Multi Media – St Helens 
Community Centre. 

Roundhouse Motorskills Project (Motormouth)
The provision of motor workshops delivering mechanical 
training courses for the personal development of young 
people. Working with young people who need an 
alternative education provision.

Roundhouse ANSart Project
A project to celebrate 50 years since the creation of the 
estates of Athersley, New Lodge and Smithies. ANSart is 
providing free arts workshops and courses for residents 
young and olds, exclusively to this area of Barnsley 
culminating in a community festival.

Roundhouse Sure Start 
The community Partnership is the lead body for Sure 
Start for Athersley, New Lodge and Smithies. 
The project provides: 
- Support, Help and Guidance
- Good Play Experience for Children
- Baby and Toddler Groups
- Home safety schemes, and much more.



The North Barnsley Partnership covers an area to the 
North of Athersley, which includes areas of the Carlton 
Industrial Estate and the New Wharncliffe Park Industrial 
Site; unfortunately this does not include any residents 
from the area.
